Movies

As a child, I wasn’t really exposed to popular culture. I grew up in a household with no television and a pretty highbrow selection of music. Pop bands, TV shows and video games were basically banned but going to the cinema was a weekly occurrence. My parents would take me to see new releases but also a lot of foreign films, 80s classics and black and white movies. My love of film began at that point and has never left me, influencing the way I compose and light my images. This cinematic approach to illustration – using unexpected angles and shadow play – led to my first commissions for the culture pages of The New Yorker as well as other movie-related projects.
