Fashion
I have always had a fascination for fashion, especially couture pieces from designers such as Dior, Valentino and Balmain. I started doing fashion illustration early in my career for women’s magazines but rapidly moved onto other themes. As much as I loved drawing dresses, I didn’t want to be limited to this type of commission. Once in a while, my love for fashion would come back, in the shape of a pattern, a hat or a simple jewellery detail. I rekindled my love for garments when designing a handful of The New Yorker spring and fall style issues and realised that my approach to fashion had deepened without even realising it. Somehow, all the work I had developed containing optical illusions, volumes and movement came rushing back and helped me find a new way to bring these garments to life.
