Mexican bauhaus

Mexican Bauhaus is a limited edition trainers collaboration with Spanish brand Hoff inspired by the architecture of Luis Barragán and my favourite place on earth: Mexico.

I approached this collaboration from a very personal place and as a colour story more than anything, digging within my memories of the multiple trips I took to Mexico.

I vividly remember the reds, pinks and oranges living in harmony and always contrasted with the clear blue sky.

As a starting point, I decided to create a minimal architectural scene where the volume is created by the relationship between these four colours, one being the shadow or the light of its neighbour. Another sensory memory I have from Mexico is that feeling that the lights and shadows cast are slowly shifting on the buildings as the day goes by, changing our perception of the architecture and its colours.

In order to translate that feeling onto their iconic CITY trainers, I decided and rotate our core palette on four different shoes, creating multiple combinations and subtle shifts.

I also decided to play with different fabrics and textures on each shoe, from leather to suede to add some extra joy to the project.

The final touch was to elegantly integrate both identities together - the band and my own - to communicate the collaboration. Our logos were a match made in heaven and came together seamlessly.

I am a long time lover of mix & match trainers so this project felt like the perfect opportunity to add a playful twist by allowing people to pick, pair and wear Mexico on their feet.
